Knowing God

Knowing God

Through the children’s Sunday school ministry of the Medina United Methodist Church, children and youth learn faith-building principles which provide the foundation for a lifelong relationship with Christ.  This ministry is based in the belief that learning Biblical truths and Christian doctrine makes a difference in young lives.  Our Sunday school classes are taught by a dedicated team of adult volunteers who share their love of Christ through teaching weekly lessons which include multi-sensory activities that engage children and youth in a variety of ways.  Sunday School for ages two-sixth grade as well as a 9th grade class are offered at 9:30AM.  A class for high school youth takes place at 11:00AM.

The Nursery is located off the first floor gathering area and is staffed by Carol Sammon, Nursery Coordinator, and volunteers.  The nursery is available for newborns to 4 year olds during the 8:15 and 11:00 worship services.  During the 9:30service, the nursery welcomes infants up to 2 year olds.  Children ages 2 and older may attend Sunday school at 9:30.

Preschool & Elementary Sunday School – 9:30AM

The FaithWeaver Now curriculum is used in our two year old through 6th grade Sunday school classes.  This curriculum teaches the same Biblical principles across all age levels each week.  This way, families can apply those truths together in their daily lives, growing in their faith individually and as a whole.  A family resource is provided each week to aid families in sharing the lesson and weekly follow up activities at home.  Through participation in age appropriate Bible stories, exciting activities and multi-sensory learning, children will not only hear the Word, they will also experience it.

Two and Three Year Olds

Child enters class at the end of the month of 2nd birthday.

Toddlers and early preschool children come to Sunday School to learn trust in other adults outside their family members who care for them and in a living God who loves them.  Age-appropriate lessons are offered with plenty of time for play!

Four Year Olds/ Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten

In the 4s/Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten classes, children learn basic Bible stories through multisensory experiences and developing preschool and early primary school skills.  Music activities and play are also offered each week.  Outdoor play may be included if weather permits.

Elementary School Age

Class selection in 1st-6th is determined by the grade level the child is entering in formal school.

How Can I Serve?

Volunteer teaching opportunities are available in our Sunday school classes.  Our preschool and elementary classes have a weekly teaching rotation which offers volunteers an opportunity to “serve an hour a month” with children.  In compliance with our Child Protection Policies, our children and youth ministry volunteers are required to submit an application with references and have a background check completed prior to the start of their volunteer services.  Additionally, on-going training on child safety, current ministry trends and ideas to use in the classroom are provided.
