below are all of our weekly email updates since April

June 14, 2020
Greetings Friends!
This letter is to help keep you informed on what is going on at MUMC!  We want you to know that you are loved and missed! We are anxiously waiting for the day when we can all be together to worship and have fellowship. Until that day arrives we are implementing many ways to try to keep in touch with as many as we can.  Our office hours during this time are 9 a.m.-12:00 p.m., Monday-Friday.  You may call the Ministry Office at any time, we are checking messages throughout the day.
The weeks are really flying by quickly! We are busy preparing here for onsite worship sometime in the near future.  Here is what Pastor Tal shared with us during the update this week:
  • Last week I shared First John 4:7-8, Beloved let us love one another… and that’s on my heart again this week in two areas;
First, the gathering on the square last Saturday – as we gathered together as the body of Christ – in unity and peace as we continue to battle               racism in our land.  We do so out of love for one another.
The second area is our observation of all of the social distance protocols that we will be observing as we make plans to return to the church                          building.  As we talk about cleaning and masks and checking temperatures – it’s all out of love for one another.  So, I commend to your reading                     today – I John 4.
  • Worship transitions for coming back to onsite worship are as follows:
  • Beginning this week our online worship times will be 9:00 a.m. for the Traditional service and 11:00 a.m. for the Praise service.  This slight                        change in times will allow us time to sanitize between services once we are back in the building.
  • Beginning on June 28th we will be adding a weekly outdoor service at 7:00 p.m.  Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the outdoors as we worship            together.
  • July 5th at both the 9 and 11 services we will be welcoming families with the last names ending in A-L back into the building for worship.
  • July 12th at both the 9 and 11 service we will be welcoming families with the last names M-Z back in the building.
  • The split will help both the staff, volunteers and you the congregation to ease back into what will be our way of worship for the upcoming                       weeks.
  • As we are starting to prepare for you to return for worship we have created an online survey to help us understand your thoughts.  If you have           access to our website you can find the survey on the home page.  Take a few minutes to share your thoughts with us!
  • The next quarter of Upper Rooms are now available.  If you would like one, please contact the Ministry Office and we will drop one in the mail            for you.
  • If you are shopping and run across Antibacterial Wipes and/or Lysol spray and you feel led to pick one up for the church we would appreciate               it.   These items are not available on line and are limited in store, making it hard for us to get what we need.  Please drop items off to the                           Ministry office, this will help us keep the building sanitized and safe for all.
If you are able, join us on Sunday for our Online Worship.  You can catch us at 9:00 a.m. (traditional) or 10:30 a.m. (Praise) on Facebook (Medina (OH) United Methodist Church) or YouTube (MedinaOhioUMC).
Looks like we have another beautiful weekend ahead of us.  Enjoy!  We miss you!

Blessings,
MUMC Ministry Team

Wow it is June already!  Pastor Tal shared his midweek update this week from the halls of Medina Weekday Preschool.  They are not in session right now, however we can not wait until little feet and voices fill the classrooms and hall.  Pastor Tal shared with us these thoughts:
  • The song that was in Pastor Tal’s heart Wednesday when delivering the update was written by Burt F. Bacharach / Hal David 1965 and performed by Jackie DeShannon.
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
It's the only thing that there's just too little of.
What the world needs now is love, sweet love,
No not just for some but for everyone.
In that same vein, although written many years earlier are these words from John recorded in I John 4 - 7 Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9 God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another  I’d love to pull over there and park for an hour or so – but that will be for another time. For today simply be reminded that that is our calling – to love – to love one another – to follow the example set by Christ – we need to do that and we need to do that together.
With that thought in mind I want to invite you to participate in a community prayer vigil on the square in Medina this Saturday, June 6th at 4:00.  Organized by Pastor Ruffin of 2nd Baptist here in Medina, area churches and pastors will gather at 4:00 in order to pray for peace and unity.  There are other events happening earlier that day but this one will begin at 4:00.
  • Also, this weekend - worship will remain live-streamed at 9:00 & 10:30 with communion being celebrated at both services in your homes.  If you would choose to participate we invite you to have some bread and juice prepared for you and anyone worshipping with you at that time.  In preparation for worship I invite you to spend some time in Luke 16.
  • As you may have read in the newsletter, small groups will be returning to the church building beginning June 15th.  All groups must agree to abide by the safety procedures that will be outlined for your leaders and all room use must be scheduled with the ministry office.  That’s going to mean if you’re meeting in the building – wear your mask, check your temp at the door and use hand sanitizer – just to name a few.
  • That will lead many of you to ask – when will worship return to the building?  That’s a great question.  What I can tell you is that detailed plans are being made by your staff, by your safety team and your worship team.  We have a phased in timeline approach serving as a guide but we’re also watching for word from our Bishop signaling a move to Phase 3 – which will allow for large group gatherings again.  Even when we do return – things will look different, things will be different – but through it all we’ll praise God together.
If you were watching the services last week and missed the graduation slideshow you were not alone, we missed it too!  We will be sharing the slideshow during worship services this Sunday.  Congratulations to all our graduates!
If you are able, join us on Sunday for our Online Worship.  You can catch us at 9:00 a.m. (traditional) or 10:30 a.m. (Praise) on Facebook (Medina (OH) United Methodist Church) or YouTube (MedinaOhioUMC).

Pastor Tal is back from his much needed time away.  He shared these items with us from his midweek update from the Chapel in the Woods:
  • The Chapel in the woods is a beautiful place to come and be with nature and God.  There are several hiking paths to walk in the Backwoods to!
  • The June Newsletter should be hitting your mailboxes early next week!  Maybe you already have it 😊. One item you will find in the newsletter  is about small groups and committees returning to the church as we enter phase 2.  It will be great to have small groups back at the church!
  • In worship this week we move from Easter season to Pentecost season. You may want to look at Acts 2 as we head into Sunday worship.
  • We will also be celebrating our graduating seniors this Sunday! Congratulations class of 2020.
  • Once again if you need anything please contact the ministry office.  We have people ready to help with yard work among other things!  Let us know what you need.
If you are in need of a face mask, please let the ministry office know. We have many hands sewing masks for our congregation and the community. We also have children’s sized masks.
If you are able, join us on Sunday for our Online Worship.  You can catch us at 9:00 a.m. (traditional) or 10:30 a.m. (Praise) on Facebook (Medina (OH) United Methodist Church) or YouTube (MedinaOhioUMC).

Pastor Tal took some time off this week so Jesse shared these thoughts during our Midweek Update on Facebook and YouTube:
This is memorial day weekend! Let’s take time to remember those that have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country and our freedoms.
Small groups will be able to resume meeting here at the church very soon as we move into phase 2 of our opening plan.  Be watching for more details as this unfolds. We are working on protocol and procedures for this to happen and keep everyone safe and healthy!
Lots of things have happened since the last time we have gathered together here in our Sanctuary, a worldwide pandemic, storms and a tornado here in Medina, snow in May, stay at home orders, however through all of this God is still with us and God is still Good!
Jesse shared Isaiah 26:3-4 with us:
3You will keep in perfect peace
    those whose minds are steadfast,
    because they trust in you.
4 Trust in the Lord forever,
for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.

Stay Connected!  Reach out to people in your small groups, circles, or someone you miss from worship.  You may do this by phone, email, social medina, or old fashion snail mail. If you think of someone that may not be on our radar, please let us know so we can reach out!
If you are in need of a face mask, please let the ministry office know. We have many hands sewing masks for our congregation and the community. We also have children’s sized masks.

Enjoy time with your family this Memorial Day weekend!  The Ministry Office is closed Monday, May 25.  We will be back in on Tuesday if you need anything!

Pastor Tal shared these thoughts during our Midweek Update on Facebook and YouTube:
Greetings church!  And welcome to the mid-week update from the MUMC on Wednesday, May 13th.  As we enter the middle part of May be reminded that we are still the church.  Much has changed around us but that has not.  We are the MUMC – and we exist to make and mature disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.  We strive to do that through Loving, living and sharing the good news that is the gospel of Jesus Christ.  To this we are called – and toward that end we press on.
  • MUMC will be hosting a Virtual Hymn Sing on Sunday May 17 @ 7:00 PM with Mike & Elaine on Facebook Live.  If you can join in on the fun!
  • Graduate Recognition will be May 31. Please submit any Pictures of MUMC high school or college graduates to office by 5/24.
  • If anyone needs help with getting out lawn furniture, yard work, or other outdoor odds and ends please let us know! We have volunteers willing to help!
  • Watch your mail for a mid-May update on finances and a few other things.
  • Finally, in terms of what’s ahead for us as we begin to look to opening again – know that we have been given some guidance from our Bishop about what that will look like.
Phase 1– keep doing what we’re doing – as long as the work at home, stay at home and group size under 10 orders are in place.
As we get into Phase 2 (based on the state recommendations) small groups can begin to meet in person - again while maintaining social distancing practices – masks and cleaning and lots of space.  (Classrooms – space for about 15 folks).  Small group leaders can begin to think about what that looks like.
Phase 3 – will begin a return to public worship – but with many changes including modified seating and scheduling.
Phase 4 will mark a return to where we were back in early March – so that’s a ways off yet.

Congregation we need your help! Due to social distancing we will not be able to celebrate in a "normal" fashion with our graduating seniors of 2020, therefore, we would like to show our love by showering them with cards of congratulations or encouragement. Listed below are the names of our graduating seniors. You and your family can be a part of this joyous celebration by sending a card to some or all of our seniors. These cards are to be sent or dropped off to the ministry office only (do not send to student) with the recipient's name on the envelope. The Ministry Team will drop all the cards off at one time to the graduates. Let's show them how proud we are of their accomplishment and how much they are loved by their MUMC family. Please have cards to Ministry Office no later than May 27!

Pastor Tal shared these thoughts during our Midweek Update on Facebook and YouTube:
  • He first shared some words from John Piper, Founder of Bethlehem College.   “Life is wasted if we do not grasp the glory of the cross, cherish it for the treasure that it is, and cleave to it as the highest price of every pleasure and the deepest comfort in every pain. What was once foolishness to us—a crucified God—must become our wisdom and our power and our only boast in this world.”
  • In preparation for Sunday Worship I invite you to spend some time in James 4 – as we continue in that series together.
  • As always – if you need anything that we as a church can help with please let us know.  That even includes masks that are still being made.  So if you need a mask or would like to help make masks – let us know.
  • One need that we are aware of is for a family in our church that is in need of a used riding lawnmower.
If you have an email address and are not getting updates from the Ministry Team, please call the ministry office with your email and we will add you to the list.
If you would like an Upper Room Devotional please call or email the Ministry Office and we will mail you one!

Pastor Tal shared these thoughts during our Midweek Update on Facebook and YouTube:
  • Keep your eyes fixed on the eternal  -2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (NRSV)
  • 16 So we do not lose heart. Even though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed day by day. 17 For this slight momentary affliction is preparing us for an eternal weight of glory beyond all measure, 18 because we look not at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen; for what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal.
  • It is so easy to get focused in on just the here and now – but there is so much more to this life than this life – so keep your eyes fixed on the eternal.
  • As we prepare for worship this week spend some time in James chapter 3 as we look at taming the tongue on Sunday morning.
  • Keep watch for a special video presentation later this week that will give you a behind the scenes look at worship and will answer some of the questions you have about why we’re doing things the way we are.
  • watch your mail next week for the May Newsletter
  • Needs – due to life’s circumstances right now a family in the church is in need of a small riding mower and a new microwave. If you can help contact the ministry office.
Pastor Tal closed the video with these words from Paul in 3 John 1:13 -14
I have much to write to you, but I would rather not write with pen and ink; instead I hope to see you soon, and we will talk together face to face.
